Whatever your experience level, LCBH can find a volunteer opportunity to match your needs.
There are over 30,000 evictions cases filed every year in Cook County. Without counsel, over 90% of pro se tenants are evicted, many after only a minute before the judge. Volunteer attorneys protect the rights of tenants by representing them in eviction court proceedings and advocating to keep them in their homes. Cases may include opportunities to interview clients, negotiate settlements, draft and argue motions, and conduct bench or jury trials.
Volunteers do not need any prior experience as LCBH will provide all necessary training and support. Evictions are heard on an expedited schedule, so most cases will settle or proceed to trial within 1-3 months. LCBH will try to match you with a case suited to your experience level and availability.
