A Gathering of Communities: Demanding Housing for a City in Crisis

Saturday, June 9, 2018 - 9:00am to 1:00pm
DePaul University Student Center
2250 N Sheffield Ave
Chicago, IL 60614

Chicago is at a crossroads. As our City officials boast about the booming economic development along the riverfront, the transformation of industrial corridors, a new police and fire training academy, and positioning Chicago as a welcoming center for the tech industry to make Chicago their second home, communities across Chicago, particularly in the west and south sides, have not benefited from these priorities. In gentrifying communities, low-income families are being displaced as a result of rising housing costs. Many communities have endured decades of divestment, resulting in poverty, trauma, and violence.

As City officials move forward in shaping the future of our city, there are contrasting visions for who will be included in that future. Do you feel that your voice and the voices of your loved ones are being included in shaping Chicago’s future?

On June 9th, a coalition of groups is partnering to organize over 500 Chicago residents from across the city to learn and share challenges facing families to stay in the city, and develop strategies to advance collective demands that prioritize investment in communities.

Join us on June 9th for A Gathering of Communities: Demanding Housing for a City in Crisis, at DePaul University Student Center from 9am-1pm.
